T1 and T2 mapping detect myocardial edema after repeated 200J electrical cardioversion

چکیده
Background Electrical defibrillation and cardioversion are important and sometimes life-saving interventions. However, it remains controversial whether the intervention itself can significantly damage the heart. Myocardial edema is an early feature of myocardial injury that can be visualized by T2-weighted sequences. Newer approaches utilize T2 as well as T1 mapping techniques. We used T1 and T2 mapping to detect edema as a marker for defibrillation injury.

Evidence for Acute Myocardial and Skeletal Muscle Injury after Serial Transthoracic Shocks in Healthy Swine
BACKGROUND Previous serological studies have shown controversial results whether defibrillation or cardioversion can cause myocardial injury. Cardiovascular Magnetic Resonance (CMR) can be used to detect myocardial edema, hyperemia and capillary leak as features of acute myocardial injury. The aim of this study was to assess for myocardial and skeletal muscle injury in swine following transthor...
متن کاملPerformance of T1 mapping vs. T2 mapping for assessing myocardial edema
Background Edema is an early feature of acute myocardial injury. Signal-intensity based analysis of T2-weighted images is established but known to have a high variability. T2 mapping and, more recently, T1 mapping have been proposed for assessing myocardial edema. We investigated the ability to accurately detect myocardial edema following defibrillation with T2 maps and two different T1 mapping...
متن کاملT1-mapping accurately detects acute myocardial edema: a comparison to T2-weighted cardiovascular magnetic resonance imaging
Background T2-weighted cardiovascular magnetic resonance (CMR) is commonly used to detect myocardial edema. T1-mapping is also sensitive to changes in free water content and is quantitative, obviating the need for a presumed normal reference region to detect changes within affected myocardium. We hypothesized that T1-mapping using the novel sequence Shortened Modified Look-Locker Inversion Reco...
متن کاملMyocardial edema as detected by pre-contrast T1 and T2 CMR delineates area at risk associated with acute myocardial infarction.
OBJECTIVES The aim of this study was to determine whether cardiac magnetic resonance (CMR) in vivo T1 mapping can measure myocardial area at risk (AAR) compared with microspheres or T2 mapping CMR. BACKGROUND If T2-weighted CMR is abnormal in the AAR due to edema related to myocardial ischemia, then T1-weighted CMR should also be able to detect and accurately quantify AAR. METHODS Dogs (n =...
متن کاملSerial native T1- and T2-mapping to quantitatively monitor resorption of myocardial edema following acute myocardial infarction
Background Currently, myocardial edema monitoring after acute myocardial infarction (AMI) is based on visualization of the region with increased signal-intensity on T2weighted images. Native T1 and T2 mapping are promising novel MRI techniques to quantitatively assess myocardial edema. The purpose of the study was to quantitatively evaluate resorption of myocardial edema following AMI by native...
